Why Pendulum Atelier
What We Bring to Every Watch We Work On
There are several watch service options in Kuala Lumpur. We'd like to explain, plainly, what makes our approach different — and why it tends to matter to the people who care about their timepieces.

Six Things That Define Our Work
Dedicated Expertise
Watchmaking is all we do. Our team does not carry out jewellery repairs, battery changes, or unrelated work. This focus is deliberate — and it shows in the results.
Written Service Records
You receive a written record of all work carried out, parts used, and timing results. Most owners find this useful not just immediately, but years later when the watch comes back for its next service.
Direct Access to the Workshop
Questions go directly to the people doing the work. No relay through a front desk, no generic status updates — just straightforward communication from the watchmaker.
Parts Sourced to Specification
We do not use generic substitutes where the calibre specification calls for something specific. Parts are sourced to match the movement being serviced.
Timing Machine Verification
Every reassembled movement is tested across multiple positions on a timing machine. The results accompany the watch when it is collected — not as a formality, but as a genuine measure of accuracy.
Respect for Finish and Character
We follow the original surface treatment of each watch. Brushed areas are kept brushed. Polished sections are restored to their original sheen, not converted to something they were never meant to be.
Professional Expertise Benefit
The technical knowledge required to service a mechanical watch correctly takes years to develop. Our founder trained under a master watchmaker in Switzerland before returning to Kuala Lumpur, and each person who joins the atelier brings a serious commitment to the craft — not just a willingness to learn on the job.
- Over fifteen years of hands-on movement work
- Formal horological training, not self-taught
- Experience across Swiss, Japanese, and independent calibres
- Familiarity with vintage and discontinued movements
Years of combined movement restoration experience within our workshop team
Timing machine, ultrasonic cleaning equipment, and precision hand tools calibrated to horological tolerances
Technology and Process Benefit
Good intentions are not sufficient in watchmaking — the equipment matters considerably. Our bench includes a Witschi timing machine for movement accuracy testing, ultrasonic cleaning equipment for movement components, and pressure testing apparatus for water resistance verification. These are not luxury additions; they are the minimum required to do the work properly.
- Multi-position electronic timing verification
- Ultrasonic component cleaning
- Pressure testing for water resistance
Customer Service Benefit
We think that owning a watch you care about should involve being treated as someone who cares about it. That means being informed at each stage, having questions answered without condescension, and receiving the watch back with a clear explanation of what was done and why.
- No-obligation intake assessment before work begins
- Direct contact with the watchmaker throughout
- Written service notes on collection
- Photography of condition on arrival
"We aim to leave every client feeling that their watch received more care than they expected, and that they understood exactly what was involved."
— Hafizuddin Rashid, Founder
Value and Pricing Benefit
Our pricing reflects the time and care that proper watchwork requires. We do not offer the lowest prices in Kuala Lumpur, and we are honest about that. What we offer instead is value — a service carried out thoroughly, with quality parts, by someone who knows what they are doing. A watch serviced well lasts considerably longer between services than one handled quickly.
All pricing is discussed and agreed before work begins. There are no surprises on collection.
Results and Outcomes Benefit
The outcome of a watch service is not simply that the watch is returned — it is that the watch runs well, keeps accurate time, and is in a condition that will hold for several years before the next service is needed. We track timing results before and after every movement service, and we do not release a watch that does not meet the calibre's original specification.
- Timing results recorded and provided to owner
- Power reserve verified on automatic movements
- Post-service period of observation before release

Comparison
Specialist Atelier vs Typical Service Centres
We are not the right choice for everyone, and we recognise that. But for those who care about the long-term condition of a mechanical watch, here is how the approaches differ.
| Feature | Pendulum Atelier | Typical Centres |
|---|---|---|
| Movement disassembly and inspection | Not always included | |
| Written service record provided | ||
| Timing machine test results shared | ||
| Original finishing preserved on case | Inconsistent | |
| Direct communication with watchmaker | ||
| Estimate before work begins | Sometimes | |
| Water resistance tested post-service | Rarely standard |
Distinct Qualities
What We Do That Others Often Don't
Photographic Intake Documentation
Every watch is photographed at intake. Pre-existing marks, scratches, and the condition of straps or bracelets are noted in writing. This protects both parties and reflects how we feel responsibility should be managed.
Observation Period Before Release
After reassembly and timing testing, movements are observed over 24–48 hours before the watch is returned. If behaviour changes during this period, we address it before release rather than after.
Secure Overnight Storage
Watches in our care are held in individual locked compartments overnight. We carry professional indemnity insurance for all pieces on the premises — something not all independent workshops do.
Technical Reference Library
We maintain a reference collection of calibre documentation, including technical manuals, exploded diagrams, and original tolerance specifications for a wide range of movements. This is not universal in independent workshops.
