Our Story
A Workshop Built Around the Watch, Not the Clock
Pendulum Atelier opened its doors in Bangsar with a single purpose: to give mechanical timepieces the unhurried, considered care they deserve.
Back to HomeWho We Are
The Story of Pendulum Atelier
Pendulum Atelier was founded in 2011 by Hafizuddin Rashid, a watchmaker who spent his early career learning movement restoration under a master horologist in Zurich before returning to Kuala Lumpur. The workshop began as a modest bench in a shophouse on Jalan Telawi — a single craftsman, a set of hand tools, and a growing reputation for careful, thorough work.
Over the years, the atelier grew not through advertising, but through word of mouth among collectors and owners who noticed that their watches kept better time after a visit. A second watchmaker joined in 2015, and the workshop moved to its current address at 23 Jalan Telawi 3, where it occupies a space designed to reflect the character of the craft itself — warm, unhurried, and precise.
Today, Pendulum Atelier serves both everyday owners who want their watch to run well, and serious collectors who trust us with pieces of considerable personal and monetary value. Our approach has not changed: we look at each watch individually and decide what it actually needs, rather than applying a standard procedure across every service.
We are not the fastest workshop in Kuala Lumpur, and we do not aim to be. We are, we believe, among the most thorough.
Our Mission
To extend the working life of mechanical timepieces through attentive, technically sound servicing — and to do so with transparency and respect for both the watch and its owner.
Our Values
- Patience — good watchwork cannot be rushed
- Honesty — we say what a watch needs, not what earns more
- Respect for the original — we restore, not redesign
- Accountability — every job comes with written notes

How We Work
Our Standards and Protocols
Every service at Pendulum Atelier follows a structured process. These are not formalities — they are the habits that produce consistent, reliable results.
Intake Condition Assessment
Every watch is photographed and assessed on arrival. Existing marks are noted before any work begins, so the condition on entry is clear and documented.
Magnification and Precision Tools
Movement work is carried out under loupe and microscope. We use watchmakers' bench tools, timing machines, and ultrasonic cleaning equipment calibrated for horological components.
Manufacturer-Grade Lubricants
We use only recognised horological lubricants — Moebius, Nye, and equivalent grades — matched to the component type. Incorrect lubrication is among the most common causes of premature wear.
Timing Machine Verification
After reassembly, all mechanical movements are tested on a multi-position timing machine. Results are recorded and shared with the owner as part of the service documentation.
Water Resistance Testing
Where gaskets are replaced, water resistance is pressure-tested to the watch's rated specification. This is standard practice on all case and overhaul services.
Secure Storage During Service
All watches in our care are stored in individual compartments within a locked cabinet when not at the bench. We carry professional indemnity insurance for all pieces on premises.
Watch Restoration and Servicing in Kuala Lumpur
Pendulum Atelier occupies a particular position in the Kuala Lumpur watch service landscape: a workshop that works on fewer pieces at once in order to give each one adequate time and attention. For owners of mechanical, automatic, and vintage watches in Bangsar and the wider Klang Valley, this means a service experience that is communicative, thorough, and respectful of the watch's individual character.
Our capabilities extend across movement restoration — the careful disassembly, cleaning, regulation, and reassembly of the calibre — as well as exterior work such as case polishing, crystal replacement, and bracelet adjustment. For watches that require both, our full overhaul service combines the two into a single comprehensive process, followed by timing verification and power reserve assessment.
We work with heirloom pieces passed down through families, watches acquired from estate sales, and everyday wearers that have simply not been serviced in some years. Each requires a different approach, and each receives one.
